Coca-Cola & STABYC Partner to Preserve a 90-Year Legacy
Asa Candler Jr. Challenger Trophy Re-Dedication
Panama City, FL -- The St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club is honored to announce that they
will be conducting a dedication ceremony on October 26th at 4:30 pm in conjunction
with Coca-Cola for their new Asa Candler Jr. Challenger Trophy. The ceremony will be
dedicating a new Tiffany trophy, generously donated by Coca-Cola. A short
documentary, presented by Wewa Films, will be available on the Yacht Club’s website,
providing more information about the trophy.
In November of 2023, the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club experienced a fire that completely
devastated the membership. Along with the loss of the main clubhouse, the membership lost
the nearly 90-year-old Asa Candler Jr. Challenger Trophy. The trophy was originally donated to
St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club in 1936 as part of an agreement that they would run a regatta
every first weekend in June in front of Asa Candler Jr.’s home.
“Losing the Candler Trophy was a major loss not only for the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club, but
also for Panama City,” says Gabriela Cumbie, events committee chair. Cumbie states,
“Families from across the Gulf Coast have been coming to Panama City for almost 90 years to
sail our waters and compete for the trophy. We are overjoyed to continue the tradition thanks to
Coca-Cola.”
